In Defense of Marxism

Collected in this volume are several articles written by José Carlos Mariátegui, originally published between 1928 and 1929 in the magazines Mundial and Variedades. These articles later appeared in issues 17-24 of the magazine Amauta, edited and compiled under the title In Defense of Marxism. Also included in this volume are a series of articles that Maríategui originally wished to include grouped under the titles “Theory and Practice of the Reaction” and “Specimens of Reaction”. This volume engages with several important topics, such as the struggle between Marxism and revisionism after the First World War and an analysis of the then emerging fascist movements in Europe.
