Republished here for the first time since its original 1861 release, A Voice from Harpers Ferry is Osborne P. Anderson's firsthand account of the raid on Harpers Ferry led by John Brown on October 16, 1859. The raid on the armory was a core aspect of Brown's strategy of anti-slavery warfare which would have provided militants with arms against the forces of the decadent slaveholding aristocracy. Militarily defeated but morally and politically victorious, Brown's raid served as the prelude for the impeding Civil War which would end slavery and consummate the victory of the bourgeois-democratic revolution in the United States.
